- ➤ The Athens-Clarke County Board of Education debated a new policy that would involve staff, parents, and community members in decisions during a meeting yesterday; some members praised its aspirational language while others argued it duplicated existing oversight—voting to send the policy back to the district for revision. - ➤ The University of Georgia held its annual Ramsey Palooza event on Sept. 11 at the Ramsey Student Center in Athens, Georgia. - ➤ Gov. Brian Kemp swore in his daughter Lucy Kemp as a Georgia State Trooper on Sept. 5 at the Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth—she ranked at the top of a class of 30 cadets. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia will end its labor and delivery unit next month due to financial and staffing pressures — maternity services will be moved to its main hospital in Athens as part of a restructuring plan. The hospital said patients have been notified and will receive support during the transition as emergency obstetric care continues at Lavonia with higher-level cases transferred by ambulance.
