- ➤ St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia will end its labor and delivery unit next month due to financial and staffing pressures — maternity services will be moved to its main hospital in Athens as part of a restructuring plan. The hospital said patients have been notified and will receive support during the transition as emergency obstetric care continues at Lavonia with higher-level cases transferred by ambulance.
