  • Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services is hosting Deck the Hollow at Memorial Park from Dec. 11 to Dec. 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event features lights, crafts, live shows, concessions and animal encounters, and charges $5 per person (children under 2 free).  Classic City News
  • The Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens named Kirk Dominick interim director after CEO Shawonna Coleman resigned. The board said it will begin the search for a permanent CEO soon to keep operations stable for youth and families (its top priority).  Athens Banner-Herald

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Whataburger at 700 U.S.-29 in Athens will close at midnight on Sunday, Dec. 14 (employee confirmed), while the two other local locations remain open for regular service.  Athens Banner-Herald

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Georgia stores including 7-Eleven, Circle K and Speedway will operate on Christmas Day—with select CVS and Walgreens locations running reduced hours—to help Athens residents pick up last-minute items, though store hours vary by location.  Athens Banner-Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Akins Ford Arena in downtown Athens will host the Classic City Showcase on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Six area high school teams will play basketball with tickets at $15 and a clear bag policy in effect – nearby parking is available.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton finished seventh in Heisman Trophy voting on Thursday, according to ESPN. His strong play during a 12-1 season, which included an SEC Championship win, propelled the Bulldogs into the College Football Playoff.  Athens Banner-Herald
