EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Saturday, Nov. 22, UGA’s Spike Squad hosted a tailgate for 10 fourth graders at their first Georgia football game, funded by a Senior Signature class gift and coordinated with local elementary schools. The event featured games, food, face painting, and jersey giveaways — a program that introduced local children to campus traditions and the spirit of UGA football.  The Red & Black

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Georgia Water Coalition honored an Athens REI Co-op on Alps Road for its financial support of local conservation groups—UGA’s Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant were recognized for restoring natural oyster beds in coastal marshes.  Athens Banner-Herald

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • 316 Caribbean, a family-owned Jamaican restaurant at Georgia Square Mall, built a loyal following since its lunch counter opened in December 2023—serving dishes like jerk chicken and brown stew chicken. The eatery operates Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. as the mall prepares for a major redevelopment that may change the dining scene.  Athens Banner-Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • Georgia women's basketball won at Stegeman Coliseum on Sunday with an 87 to 59 victory over Georgia Tech, marking their first win there since 2017. Transfer Dani Carnegie scored a season-high 23 points and the team will travel to Suncoast Credit Union Arena for tournament games beginning Nov 28 against Kansas and Butler.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Georgia basketball lost in overtime to Clemson 97—94 on November 23 after the Bulldogs saw their 10‐point lead vanish amid 48 fouls. Coach Mike White said the game showed a need for better half‐court play and defensive rebounding as the team prepares for upcoming SEC contests.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Clemson defeated Georgia 97—94 in overtime in the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic on Nov. 23 at TD Arena—handing the Bulldogs their first loss this season. Georgia will host Tennessee Tech on Saturday as they look to rebound.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • The No.4 Georgia Bulldogs and the No.19 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will play a rivalry game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Friday, November 28 at 3:30 p.m. Tickets start at $580 as both teams prepare for a high-stakes clash.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Georgia football underclassmen shone on Senior Day in a 35-3 win over Charlotte on November 22 at Dooley Field, with freshman safety Daniel Okonkwo grabbing his first career interception and freshman running back Bo Walker scoring three touchdowns. Coach Kirby Smart praised the young players+ saying their strong play helped secure the victory as they prepared for next season.  Athens Banner-Herald
