ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A recent analysis by Upgraded Points shows that Georgia residents need much higher incomes to live comfortably, with a single adult requiring $110,659 and families needing between $183,490 and $244,640 a year. In Athens, one person needs $99,412 while many residents earn far less + the median personal income is $46,227 and the median family income is $98,602. Athens Banner-Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A new study ranks UGA as the top school for short-term study abroad—ranking it fifth overall—with over 3,000 students studying abroad this past academic year. UGA will increase its faculty-led programs from 115 to 154 next year. WUGA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Georgia State Transportation Board awarded over $24.4M in federal funds on November 20th to build 26 fast-charging stations for electric vehicles across the state. Selected companies will design, install and operate the stations—including one in Clarke County—as part of the NEVI program to meet growing EV demand. The Red & Black
- ➤ The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department announced that compost, garbage, recycling, and leaf and limb collections will be suspended on November 27th and 28th in observance of Thanksgiving—customers outside downtown will have pickups rescheduled with Monday and Tuesday services combined into one day and Wednesday collections moved to Tuesday. Service in the downtown district remains unchanged and will resume normally on December 1st. Athens-Clarke County
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The LeapFrog Group released safety ratings for 79 hospitals in Georgia, giving 19 an 'A' grade—including Piedmont Athens Regional Medical—and ranking two Savannah hospitals as failing. The report aims to help patients choose hospitals that prevent errors, infections, and accidents. Athens Banner-Herald

- ➤ Georgia football is set to host Charlotte today at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs, recently ranked No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings, are expected to win—Charlotte will earn a $1.9 million payout if they win. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ Georgia seniors played their final regular-season home game today against Charlotte, ending four years of loyalty at Sanford Stadium with a record-setting home-winning streak. The class, including Cash Jones and Micah Morris, won national and SEC titles and now heads to the road for a final shot at a championship — a rare dedication in modern college football. - ➤ Georgia finished its SEC schedule with a 7-1 record and placed second, but its spot in the SEC title game is still uncertain—Texas A&M must beat Texas while other game results decide Georgia’s fate. - ➤ On Nov. 20, 2025, UGA’s women’s basketball team beat North Florida 92—46 at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, showing strong teamwork and sharp play throughout the game. The Red & Black
- ➤ Brett Thorson joined the Bulldogs in 2022 from Australia through the prokick Australia program and helped win a national title. After a bad knee injury in 2024 that ended his season, he returned this season and has played eight games with strong punts, and his humor lifts the team (head coach Kirby Smart praised his personality).
