BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dexter Weaver, owner of Weaver D’s, put the restaurant up for sale last month as he prepares for retirement. The quarter-acre, green-painted building from 1950 is listed at $800,000—investors are not expected to keep its long-held restaurant identity while Weaver plans future projects and will still host his annual Feed the Hungry Thanksgiving feast.  Flagpole

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gonzoriffic, Athens’ only experimental film collective making feminist and queer-centric films, will host its 17th Underground Movie Show on Nov. 7 and 8 at 10:30 p.m. at Ciné. The two-night event will feature films such as Cheerleader Reunion, Sluts4Satan, Lampe, Pickles and The Countess, and Velcome+ Athens burlesque star Jackie N. Hyde will host each night.  Flagpole
  • On Tuesday, Nov 4, the Institute of Native American Studies and Historic Athens hosted a panel of UGA tribal citizens at Lyndon House Arts Center where they discussed the long history of Native American presence in Athens — highlighting past removal policies that erased much of this heritage. The speakers explained how these historical actions continue to shape their academic and cultural experiences.  The Red & Black
  • Strolling Bones Records will posthumously release Tommy Talton’s final studio album, Seven Levels, on Friday, Nov. 7, recorded at Capricorn Studios with his bandmates. A special performance by The Mike Veal Band—featuring Randall Bramblett and Rick Hirsch—will celebrate the album on Sunday, Nov. 9 at Hendershot’s.  Flagpole
  • The UGA Opera Theatre will present the Southeastern premiere of the comic opera The Ring of Polykrates at Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall, with performances scheduled for Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 9 at 3 p.m.—tickets cost $6 for UGA ID holders and $23 for others.  Flagpole
  • Local rock band Seaboard Bridge, featuring guitarist Matt Howels, bassist Matthew Zediker, and drummer Chris Doc Collins, will release an EP tonight at 8 p.m. at Flicker Theatre & Bar—tickets cost $10 and opener Fizzy Soda will perform its debut show.  Flagpole

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA recalled some Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars sold at Kroger for undeclared wheat that may cause allergic reactions. The recalled bars—bearing batch code LLA519501—were sold in Georgia and many other states.  Athens Banner-Herald

  • The Ebony Fit Weekend event will offer workouts, wellness panels, networking, nightlife, and a cultural celebration this coming weekend—organizers say details on schedules and meeting points will be shared soon.  FOX 5 Atlanta

  • Georgia football players are not worried about Mississippi State's cowbells since they are used to loud SEC games and focus on playing. Coach Kirby Smart said the team will play focused despite the noise—preparing to face Mississippi State on Saturday, November 8 at noon on ESPN.  Athens Banner-Herald
