- ➤ The Heard Park Community Center at 400 McKinley Drive and Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St will temporarily close for gym floor repairs from Saturday, November 22 until Monday, December 1 at 8:00 a.m.—the centers will be closed due to dust and heavy chemical odors from sanding and new finish work. - ➤ After a man in a Nazi uniform hit UGA student Grace Lang outside an Athens bar last week, the community raised over $43,000 for her medical expenses—while the suspect, Kenneth Morgan, faces misdemeanor and felony charges and was released on a $15,000 bond. Athens Banner-Herald

- ➤ Athfest has started accepting early performer applications for its 2026 music and arts festival from June 26 to June 28, with applications closing on February 14. The booking committee will review local and new acts to choose its lineup—bringing fresh sounds to the event. Athens Banner-Herald

- ➤ High school seniors in Georgia can now apply to over 60 colleges without an application fee through November — the fee-waiver program was announced by the Georgia Student Finance Commission in partnership with public and private institutions. WUGA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government will test its 12 outdoor tornado warning sirens and website alert system tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. as part of Severe Weather Preparedness Day, with schools, businesses and individuals urged to take part in tornado drills—if inclement weather occurs, the test will be canceled. - ➤ Georgia women's basketball won 73—44 against Alabama State in its season opener on Monday night, giving up the fewest points ever in an opener. The team with eight new players will face Furman on November 6 at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network via ESPN. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ Georgia football coach Kirby Smart said that Jordan Hall will be sidelined for awhile while Chris Cole is expected to return this week and Demello Jones, with an elbow injury, may be cleared soon—adding urgency as the Bulldogs head to Starkville on Saturday at noon on ESPN. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ The No. 5 Bulldogs have a 7-1 record and remain in the playoff mix despite getting few sacks and forcing few turnovers — coach Kirby Smart said the team is working on improvements before playing Mississippi State on November 8. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ On November 2, the Georgia Bulldogs baseball team played an 18-inning exhibition game at Foley Field in Athens against the West Georgia Wolves—players including transfers showed their skills during the long matchup. The Red & Black
- ➤ Georgia football will host Texas for the first time ever in Sanford Stadium on Nov. 15 as the No. 5 Bulldogs face the No. 13 Longhorns—an announced game that kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and will be shown on ABC. Athens Banner-Herald
