  • Families attended Fright on the Firefly on the Firefly Trail in Athens on Oct. 25 — the event featured face painting, trick-or-treating, a scavenger hunt and a costume contest. Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services organized the trick-or-treat walk and provided free candy and interactive signs for attendees.  The Red & Black

  • The 17th Wild Rumpus Halloween Parade and Spectacle took place downtown on Oct. 25 — the event featured a parade followed by live music and entertainment.  The Red & Black

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Clarke County School District named Timothy Pritchett Teacher of the Year and Brian Smith Support Professional of the Year. Pritchett boosted student reading with new tutoring programs at Barnett Shoals and Smith, an Athens native, started a mentorship program to help boys learn key life skills.  Classic City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Athens Rock Lobsters won 6-2 against the Twin City Thunderbirds on Oct. 25 at Akins Ford Arena—this home opener marked a strong start to their season.  The Red & Black
  • On Oct. 25, the UGA equestrian team beat UC Davis 15-3 at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop.  The Red & Black
  • Georgia basketball coach Mike White said the team showed progress after an 81-65 exhibition win against Troy in Athens on Oct. 26 & praised the players for their strong teamwork. He added that the win boosted their confidence as they prepare for the regular season.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Georgia football was ranked number five in the US LBM Coaches Poll released Oct.26 and the Bulldogs with a 6-1 record will face Florida at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov.1 - coach Kirby Smart said the team is working on improvements for future opponents.  Athens Banner-Herald
