Good morning, Athens.

At its October meeting on Thursday, the County Board of Education voted to renew its charter system contract for 2027-2032 so schools will get over $6M in state funding and extra regulatory waivers.

The board also approved a $1.2M payment for IRS excess bond profit and an $11.2M contract for an elementary renovation (changes can be made before the Nov. 2 submission).

Athens residents with October birthdays can enjoy a range of freebies like coffee, meals, desserts, and beauty treats from local and national businesses.

Some offers require enrolling in a loyalty program ahead of time (please check terms) to qualify during the month.

Friday night high school football in the Athens area saw Cedar Shoals and Athens Academy battle for key wins while region leaders in Clarke Central and North Oconee and undefeated squads from Prince Avenue Christian and Commerce played tightly contested games— a complete recap will be posted later today.
