- ➤ A new study by Consumer Affairs shows that Georgia drivers pay about $3,392 a year to own a car due to high insurance, repair, and fuel costs. - ➤ The Georgia AIM tour bus visited Athens last Thursday to showcase new AI and technology at the UGA College of Engineering courtyard where a robotic dog and man walked, waved, and blew a kiss to visitors—experts explained that the initiative, funded by a federal grant, will help prepare students for future manufacturing and agriculture jobs through hands-on demos across several cities. - ➤ The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department said it will not pick up trash, recycling, compost, or yard waste on Monday, October 13 for Indigenous People’s Day for customers outside downtown—those customers will have their collection moved to the next day while downtown service stays on schedule and normal pickups resume on Monday, October 20. - ➤ Tim Denson, a progressive local leader (Clarke County School District Board of Education District 5 representative), held his Athens mayor campaign kickoff at Athentic Brewing Company on Oct. 4 and outlined plans to reduce housing costs by building affordable homes and improving transit and sidewalks.
