- ➤ Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services will host a free Movies by Moonlight outdoor showing of the 2024 musical Wicked on Friday, October 10 at 7:40 p.m. at Walker Park—patrons should bring lawn chairs, blankets, and their own refreshments while following park rules. Classic City News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Clarke County School District’s Class of 2025 scored 1048 on the SAT, which surpassed both the state average of 1029 and the national average of 996 on Sept. 30—marking the second year in a row that the district led public-school peers. WUGA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Volunteers will meet at Dudley Park on Oct 11 from 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the annual Rivers Alive cleanup and will help clean local rivers and streams under a state campaign—participants receive breakfast and a t-shirt while needing to bring water bottles, gloves, long pants, and closed-toed shoes. - ➤ Friday Oct. 3, five Athens-area high school football games will be played as North Oconee hosts Madison County, East Jackson faces Franklin County, Apalachee visits Jackson County, Monroe Area plays at Jefferson, and Stephens County meets Prince Avenue Christian—each game set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff that could shift team records as the season nears its end.
