COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ACC Transit challenges Athens residents to try a week without driving from today until October 5 as part of a national event that lets drivers see the challenges non-drivers face in daily trips. Transit Director Victor Pope said fare-free rides have nearly doubled local ridership since the pandemic and may help neighbors save money on gas and car maintenance — a shift that supports essential travel.  Flagpole

CULTURE NEWS

  • Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean will headline UGA’s Live Between the Hedges concert on April 25, 2026—returning Sanford Stadium as a major music venue after more than a decade—and UGA plans to make the event an annual tradition blending campus culture with Athens’ music scene.  FOX 5 Atlanta

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Friday, Sept. 26, The Fight Against Suicide hosted a boxing match at The Cotton Press in Athens where fighters competed in 3-round bouts to raise awareness for mental fitness. The nonprofit—started by UGA students David Edmiston and Will Smith in 2021—focused on efforts to prevent suicide.  The Red & Black

  • Clarke Central won 38-0 in its varsity football game at Apalachee High School in Winder on Sept. 26, 2025 — the win showcased the team’s strong effort in a closely watched matchup.  The Red & Black
  • No. 5 Georgia lost 24—21 to No. 17 Alabama at Sanford Stadium on Sept. 27, with photos capturing key plays from players like Chauncey Bowens and Gunner Stockton. The game showed strong efforts from both teams before Alabama secured the win.  The Red & Black
