CULTURE NEWS

  • Georgia announced it will hold its first Sanford Stadium concert in 13 years on April 25, 2026 — the event 'Live Between the Hedges' will feature headliners Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean along with Zach Top, Lauren Alaina and DJ Rock and Dee Jay Silver following a campus announcement on Sept. 27. Ticket presales begin on Monday, Sept. 29 with scheduled access for UGA students, donors and the general public.  Athens Banner-Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Clarke County School District announced that Barnett Shoals and Cleveland Road elementary schools were named 2025 Title I Reward Schools by the Georgia Department of Education. The award comes after each school showed steady gains in English and math scores — placing them among the state's best-improving Title I schools.  The Red & Black

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dr. Lakeisha Gantt, a native Athenian psychologist serving on the Clarke County School District Board for District 7, declared last week she is running for Clarke County mayor — she discussed her vision with WUGA and aims to bring her background in education and mental health to local government — as she embarks on her campaign.  WUGA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. David S. Lockman, a retired Athens doctor, will hold a town hall discussion about vaccine safety and efficacy at the Clarke County Library—set for October 1 at 6 p.m.  WUGA

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Sanford Stadium on Saturday night, No. 5 Georgia lost to No. 17 Alabama 24-21 as Alabama’s quarterback led the game with steady passes to gain 276 yards. The Bulldogs’ weak run—key drops hurt their chance to tie—left them unable to overcome Alabama’s lead.  The Red & Black
  • The University of Georgia women’s soccer team played against Florida at Turner Soccer Complex in Athens on Sept. 26 — the game ended with a 2—2 draw. They will face the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on Oct. 2.  The Red & Black
  • Classic City Wrestling hosted a match at 40 Watt in Athens on Sept. 26 — independent wrestlers competed at the venue to gain exposure.  The Red & Black
  • During the first half of the NCAA football game at Sanford Stadium yesterday, Alabama held a 24-14 lead over Georgia as players contested every play. Photos captured the intense action on the field — showing celebrations and reactions from fans and coaches.  The Red & Black
