- ➤ On Sept. 19, 2025, community members gathered at Tate Student Plaza for a vigil honoring Charlie Kirk – hosted by Turning Point UGA. Local leaders including Athens Christian School head Steven Cummings led prayers while attendees observed a quiet tribute in remembrance of Kirk. The Red & Black
- ➤ 100+ Women Who Care Athens, launched by Sherry Clouser in 2015, has raised $265,000 for 34 local nonprofits over a decade by holding quarterly meetings—where members vote on which organizations receive donations such as the Acceptance Recovery Center. - ➤ Michael Conroy was a beloved lecturer—retired in 2019—from UGA’s Warnell School who made important changes in how people manage wildlife, and he passed away in June. - ➤ The Oconee River Land Trust launched a new campaign to conserve the Middle Oconee River in Clarke County where it flows under the 10 Loop and Atlanta Highway.
