  • Men’s Wearhouse now offers fall formalwear for events such as homecoming dances, weddings, and holiday parties—customers can choose to buy or rent suits that range from casual sport coats to full tuxedos. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Friends of the Library will host the fall sale at the Athens-Clarke County Library on Baxter St. from Sept 24 to Sept 27 with over 26,000 books, games, puzzles, CDs, DVDs and comics on offer. The sale starts with a members-only day on Sept 24 and ends with bag day on Sept 27—shoppers should plan their visit early on Georgia Bulldogs home game day.  Athens Banner-Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • An overtime win against Tennessee moves Georgia to No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank and Miami jumps to No. 2 after defeating South Florida—former top-ranked Penn State drops to No. 3.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Georgia basketball has a banner in its practice gym that honors its 2025 March Madness appearance—its first NCAA trip since 2015—and the team aims for back-to-back tournament appearances. Coach Mike White and players like Blue Cain will begin preseason practice Sunday with exhibition games on Oct. 15 and at home on Oct. 26 before opening the season on Nov. 3.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • The University of Georgia volleyball team hosted the Bulldog Classic round-robin tournament at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens this past weekend, defeating Presbyterian on Sept. 12 and Georgia Southern on Sept. 13 — but lost to FIU on Sept. 14.  The Red & Black

  • Readers are invited to vote for Week 5 Athens-area high school Football Player of the Week as the online poll remains open until Sept.22 at 5 p.m. Nominees include standout players from Apalachee, Athens Christian, Cedar Shoals, Jackson County, North Oconee, Oconee County, Prince Avenue Christian and Winder-Barrow—future contests will run from Tuesday through Monday with new nominations allowed until a player wins.  Athens Banner-Herald
