- ➤ The Athens YMCA held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Sept 9—launching a $9.3 million improvement project to expand fitness and wellness areas and add the Cobern Kelley Youth Wing with STEAM and youth spaces. The campaign raised $4.6 million, and the project will be completed in December while the facility remains open during construction. The Red & Black

- ➤ Kyle Joseph Anderson, 34, of White Plains, PA, was arrested Sunday afternoon for sexually assaulting a female employee at Cloud 9 Smoke & Vape Shop on East Broad Street—police said after reviewing surveillance footage that showed him exposing himself and groping her. Classic City News

- ➤ On Sept. 2, the Athens-Clarke County Commission split over Farm to Neighborhood's plan to remove three parking spots at Triangle Plaza to create a community garden—some local residents worried the change might hide plans for luxury student housing and increase gentrification. City officials said the proposal does not alter current zoning and that any future change would need a new vote. Flagpole
- ➤ About 100 people came to a planning commission meeting on Sept. 4 to oppose a 116-room hotel proposed behind the former UGA President’s House on Prince Avenue—residents worried the large hotel would bring noise, traffic, and parking issues. The meeting also looked at a plan to build new apartments at Homewood Hills where neighbors raised concerns over building height and parking, and a final decision is expected in December. Flagpole
