EDUCATION NEWS

  • The UGA Department of Entomology is building a live insect zoo that will open to visitors later this month when staff are available for oversight—30 species including tarantulas, spiders, beetles and scorpions are already housed there, with plans to add more like the Mexican flame knee tarantula.  The Red & Black
  • The new mandate requires that core class syllabuses be published online this fall and that all courses be compliant by fall 2026 — the rule aims to boost transparency while some professors warn it could threaten academic freedom. At UGA, officials say publishing syllabuses is routine since they have long been available on the UGA bulletin.  The Red & Black

  • A poll for the best waffles in Athens is open as part of National Waffle Week, featuring 10 local spots and accepting votes until noon Sept. 11 — results will be shared Sept. 12.  Athens Banner-Herald

  • Georgia football was ranked No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches Poll after a 28-6 win over Austin Peay on Sept. 7th—giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 record. They will play No. 15 Tennessee on Sept. 13th at 3:30 p.m.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • The University of Georgia beat Austin Peay 28-6 at Sanford Stadium in Athens on Sept. 6—strong plays from key players secured the win—and the game was marked by decisive action on both offense and defense.  The Red & Black
