ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Georgia will mark the start of fall at 2:19 p.m. on Sept 22 when the equinox occurs—Athens residents will see minimal leaf changes by Oct 6 and near peak colors by late October, while middle and south Georgia experience their best colors around Nov 10.  Athens Banner-Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Georgia women's volleyball team beat Duke 3-0 on Sept. 5 in Athens as part of the Classic City Clash tournament— a round-robin featuring Alabama State and Texas Tech.  The Red & Black
  • Georgia football freshman TE Ethan Barbour was injured in the final seconds of the first half against Austin Peay, and trainers attended to his ankle before he was carted off the field—Georgia now relies on other tight ends to fill his role. The incident occurred while the Bulldogs led 14-3, and the team will monitor his condition closely.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • The Bulldogs won 28-6 against Austin Peay on Saturday, Sept. 6—though the offense earned a C- as four first-half drives failed to score and turnovers set the team back. Running back Chauncey Bowens and receiver Colbie Young were bright spots in a win that leaves coach Kirby Smart with questions to address.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • The Dawg Walk occurred before the University of Georgia football game against Austin Peay at Sanford Stadium in Athens on Saturday, Sept.6—kickoff was moved from 3:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to expected weather.  The Red & Black
