CRIME NEWS

  • 22-year-old Ytrevious Roberson arranged a sexual meeting via Instagram with 30-year-old Miles Brown in January 2022 then drove with Brown to the Chatham Park neighborhood where Roberson fired his .45-caliber handgun and wounded Brown’s ankle—he later eluded a May 2022 traffic stop by jumping into the North Oconee River and was arrested in May 2023 and indicted on aggravated assault and gang charges.  Classic City News
  • A 30-year-old Athens woman pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated cruelty to animals after she abandoned four dogs at an apartment, which starved in squalid conditions and caused one dog to die—she is now on probation, must have her mental health evaluated, and is banned from having pets.  Classic City News
  • The University of Georgia campus is safe and open as it prepares for its first football gameday of the season Saturday after a hoax report of an armed shooter near the main library triggered a police investigation Friday night — officials confirmed no threat exists and normal security is maintained.  The Red & Black

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The red-and-black UGA license plate is the most popular custom plate in Georgia with over 77,000 active registrations, SIXT magazine reported. Drivers can order the plate online through the Georgia Department of Revenue — the process includes a one-time $25 manufacturing fee, a $20 registration fee, and a $35 annual special tag fee.  Athens Banner-Herald
