- ➤ On Aug. 14, Athens-Clarke County Police responded to an armed robbery at a hotel near Atlanta Highway when a man, after meeting a woman online, was held at gunpoint and made to hand over cash—on Aug. 19, an Athens resident lost $9,000 in a Bitcoin scam after a caller claiming to be with Amazon urged him to deposit funds into a Bitcoin ATM—and on Aug. 20, officers arrested a woman after a domestic dispute at an apartment complex led to a struggle involving a hidden firearm and bite marks. - ➤ On August 26th, UGA paused new member activity for Sigma Chi after a complaint alleged that first-year students were hazed — the university is investigating the issue. FOX 5 Atlanta
- ➤ The University System of Georgia will launch the new need-based DREAMS Scholarship program to offer up to $3,000 per year to students who need help with college costs (the program raised over $4.5 million in private funds).
