CRIME NEWS

  • A Clarke County grand jury indicted Kevin Adonay Castro, 21, on charges of trafficking meth, marijuana, cocaine and THC and possessing illegal firearms under the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act—he was arrested on June 18th and is now held in pretrial detention without bail.  Classic City News

  • University of Georgia hosted its annual Glow Up The Quad event on August 20 (welcoming new residents of Myers Hall, Mary Lyndon Hall and nearby dorms) where students socialized through games and crafts at Myers Quad.  The Red & Black

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new nonprofit will host a mental health panel today at 3:30 p.m. at the Oconee County Library at Wire Park, where professionals will discuss trauma, addiction, and issues for caregivers, men, or faith—organized by Monira Silk of Athens Parent Wellbeing in partnership with Integrative Medicine Initiative.  WUGA

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Georgia released a gameday survival guide that explains on-campus and off-campus parking passes, tailgating rules, and clear bag requirements for fans heading to Sanford Stadium—fans are advised to arrive early to beat the crowds. The guide details parking pass costs, tailgating start times, and designated areas so both new and longtime fans can plan their day effectively.  The Red & Black
  • Georgia football will play nine SEC games starting in 2026, with fixed matchups against rivals Florida and Auburn—six other games will rotate so that every SEC team meets at least every two years.
