- ➤ The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission met Tuesday, Aug. 12 to review proposed SPLOST projects for pedestrian and traffic improvements in West Broad and Hancock neighborhoods — and they discussed an affordable housing strategy to help nearly 9,000 low-income renter households. The commission will consider these SPLOST ideas in September while subcommittees work on housing solutions for a fund set to start in July/August 2026. The Red & Black
