- ➤ Police are searching for a suspect in the shooting death of 32-year-old Derek Cummings—killed last week in DeKalb County after he pursued a thief—and a heat advisory is in effect for Clarke and several other local counties—ending today at 8:00 p.m. EDT. FOX 5 Atlanta
- ➤ A 30-year-old woman was pushed from a moving car on the Athens Perimeter early Sunday morning during a family dispute—her 36-year-old brother was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery when police responded to her 911 call at about 4 a.m. and she suffered a welt on her face. - ➤ Today, Athens Technical College welcomed Jean Mullis to its Board of Directors. Mullis — the Neese District Manager at Jackson EMC with long local board experience — will help the college boost workforce training and community ties. Classic City News
- ➤ The University of Georgia ranked first in bringing research products to market for the third straight year. Its industry partners developed 69 new products in fiscal year 2024 — including poultry vaccines, biodegradable plastics and virtual reality tools — and UGA exceeded $600 million in research spending.
