- ➤ On July 10th, Raven Leighann Thrasher, 35, of Lake Place, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs after a 911 call at a Circle K on Atlanta Highway—police said she admitted using Seroquel and a search of her car uncovered amphetamine pills, marking her second DUI arrest within a month following an earlier incident in Oconee County. - ➤ The Clarke County School District Board of Education met on July 25 to discuss separate processes for naming and renaming school facilities—local teams will make recommendations and a draft process will be reviewed at the September meeting after a four-week nomination period for public comment. - ➤ Starting Aug 4, Athens-Clarke County will use five speed safety cameras in school zones to capture drivers who exceed the limit, with recorded evidence reviewed before a citation is issued.
