  • The UGA Small Business Development Center will host the Women’s Business Summit Athens—held at the UGA Delta Innovation Hub on September 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.—for $79 as a day of networking and learning open to all entrepreneurs.  Classic City News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A UGA study found that wild pigs cost southwest Georgia farmers more than $107,000 in crop damage each year—pilot programs with trapping and culling are underway to limit the losses. Researchers warn that without further measures local crops could face increased damage.  Athens Banner-Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Due to a high demand for new student enrollment, the Clarke County School District will shift from online to in-person registration at the District Office at 595 Prince Ave from Monday, July 28 until Tuesday, Aug. 5, with registration held weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the office will be closed on Wednesday, July 30 for a professional event. Families are urged to register online by July 25 to ensure that their applications are processed for the school year starting Aug. 6.  The Red & Black
