- ➤ A 32-year-old man named Marlowe Jackson was hospitalized on Sunday afternoon after he was shot at a westside Athens apartment complex—police quickly arrested 19-year-old Ronald Joseph Levi on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. - ➤ The Athens-Clarke County Sheriff's Office held a press conference Monday morning to address at least 3 inmate deaths—reportedly linked to fentanyl—and promised further updates on the investigation. FOX 5 Atlanta
- ➤ Early on July 13, Athens-Clarke County Police responded to a motorcycle crash at North Thomas Street and East Hancock Avenue when a 2005 Chevrolet truck struck a 1986 Yamaha motorcycle, killing a 38-year-old Athens woman—officers later arrested the truck driver on charges of failure to yield while turning left, DUI and first-degree vehicle homicide. - ➤ On Sunday at 5:20 a.m., an employee at Barnett Shoals Road Waffle House called 911 after 31-year-old Jack Pearson collapsed outside with a bleeding arm—he told police that another homeless man known as Steve or Stevie attacked him and stole camping supplies and electronics valued at $9,000, and EMTs treated him at the scene before taking him to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.
