CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities reported the body of 58-year-old Kenyatta Saki Booze was found dead behind Bell’s supermarket at 995 Hawthorne Avenue on June 7—this marks the second homeless death in a month after a 55-year-old man was discovered in an SUV on May 21 as autopsy results are pending to rule out foul play.  Classic City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On June 21, the third annual Athens Art Book Fair was held at the Athenaeum—downtown Athens—where local artists displayed various forms of art. The event was part of AthFest music and arts festival and gave attendees a creative space to explore new ideas.  The Red & Black
  • Isaiah Cromartie honors his grandfather—M.C. Wilson—who opened Wilson’s Styling Shop in downtown Athens in 1954 after working on the railroad and cutting hair. He plans to build new businesses that create jobs and safe spaces and carry on his grandfather’s legacy to uplift the community.  Classic City News
  • AthFest day two ended with the Club Crawl as downtown Athens bars hosted live music from about 50 artists, with sets starting at 9 p.m. at Hendershot’s and continuing past midnight at venues including 40 Watt Club, The Foundry and Flicker Theatre & Bar—crowds moved from venue to venue to enjoy a variety of performances.  The Red & Black
  • Day three of the AthFest Music and Arts Festival took place on Sunday, June 22 — three outdoor stages hosted live performances while vendors and a KidsFest area offered activities — drawing local visitors in Athens.  The Red & Black
