  • The Athens Area Community Foundation is accepting grant applications for the Resilient Northeast Georgia fund, inviting qualified nonprofits, schools, churches & government groups from 12 counties to apply until the end of June. The board will review progress reports and announce awards in mid-September as part of its efforts to improve trauma-informed services.  The Red & Black

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 21, Athens police arrested 38-year-old Latasha Baker near the FedEx on West Broad Street after she was seen walking against oncoming traffic and showing signs of drug abuse — officers found a baggie of a crystal substance and confirmed it as methamphetamine while charging her with possession, obstruction, illegal highway use, and being under the influence.  Classic City News

  • AthFest Educates announced new features for the AthFest Music & Arts Festival in downtown Athens from June 20th—22nd. The event will add two video walls, a Volume.com livestream, and VIP passes that include Historic Morton Theatre access—providing air-conditioned relief during peak hours along with extra misting tents and nightly JokerJokerTV broadcasts.  Classic City News
