  • Athens-based St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store surpassed $3 million in sales as it celebrated its 19th anniversary on May 8 at its West Broad Street location — a milestone that has generated $1.5 million net proceeds for hospital services while officials continue to welcome more volunteers and donations.  WUGA

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Athens Choral Festival brings more than 50 singers and musicians from nine states to perform Mendelssohn's Elijah today at 8 p.m. at the UGA Performing Arts Center, with community members and UGA professors taking part.  WUGA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Clarke County Board of Education will vote Monday, June 1, at 5:30 p.m. at the District Office on Prince Avenue to formally approve Dr. Jennifer Scott as superintendent; she has served as interim superintendent since July 2025 after Dr. Robbie Hooker’s retirement.  WUGA

  • The Georgia Bulldogs will face Duke next season in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden—reportedly as part of a doubleheader with Alabama and Houston, marking the teams' sixth-ever meeting.  Athens Banner-Herald
