  • The Athens Area Diaper Bank is holding its third annual spring getaway raffle to support diaper distribution for families in need. Winners will be chosen today—offering a stay at Chateau Elan or the Athenian while the initiative addresses diaper need affecting over 8,000 children in the service area.  WUGA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Zaxby's has brought back milkshakes after seven years with four flavors including vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and Birthday Cake. The shakes are now available at Athens (and other Georgia locations) for $2.50 until June 1 (half price) and will stay on the menu permanently this summer.  Athens Banner-Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia State Patrol and the Department of Natural Resources announced that troopers will patrol highways — targeting impaired drivers — and game wardens will check boaters during Memorial Day weekend.   • Athens-Clarke County will hold three Taxpayers Bill of Rights public hearings in June to let residents comment on the FY26 budget and 2025 tax millage rate before the Mayor and Commission adopt them. The hearings are on June 3 at 6:00 p.m., June 5 at 6:00 p.m., and June 10 at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall+ Commission Chamber on 301 College Avenue.  Athens-Clarke County

SPORTS NEWS

  • Athens Christian track and field won the only boys state title in the area after competing in the GIAA Class 3A meet held May 1-3 at Strong Rock Christian + the team scored eight individual titles and 133 total points, beating First Presbyterian Day by 82.5 points.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Georgia softball is playing No. 3 Florida in game 2 of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional today at 11 a.m. at Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium.
