CRIME NEWS

  • A grand jury indicted 34-year-old Cedric Smith on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a knife during a felony after he attacked a social worker with a machete at the Day Service Center on North Avenue on June 20 — coworkers halted his further assault.  Classic City News
  • A grand jury in downtown Athens indicted 38-year-old Octavius Sarden from Garnett Ridge Drive Tuesday on charges of trafficking methamphetamine, fentanyl, morphine and buprenorphine and making terroristic threats—police arrested him last month near the Bulldog Inn on Commerce Road after he allegedly distributed drugs only five months after being paroled in December 2024.  Classic City News

  • Georgia beat No. 14 Duke 8-2 Saturday in an NCAA softball tournament game that put the Bulldogs one win away from the super regionals—Randi Roelling pitched a complete game while Lyndi Rae Davis and Sarah Gordon each drove in two runs.   • After a 7-4 win over Texas A&M on May 17 at Foley Field, the Georgia Bulldogs (42-14) are in strong shape to remain a top eight seed and host NCAA tournament games at home.
