- ➤ Kevin William Lowrie, 53, shot his roommate Kenneth Douglas Aguar on Slyvan Road in June when noise disturbances upset him, and he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault while accepting a plea deal that gave him 12–18 months at the county diversion center instead of prison. Classic City News

- ➤ Georgia DOT is studying if a new high-speed rail can link Atlanta and Savannah with work continuing through 2027 and, if feasible, an environmental study starting in 2028. The study will review routes, station locations (including Athens) and technology (such as high-speed train options) while using $10 million in planning funds from an $8 million federal grant and a $2 million state match.
