- ➤ An Athens tax preparer, Jessica Crawford, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and filing false tax returns exceeding $3.5 million and was sentenced by a federal judge to eight years in prison—she also falsely filed pandemic unemployment claims on behalf of clients. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ Athens authorities confirmed that 52-year-old David Anthony Farquhar was found dead in his apartment at Broadacres Homes off West Broad Street around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday—detectives and forensic teams began investigating the scene and his body was sent to the state medical examiner for autopsy. - ➤ UGAPD reported that a loaded pistol was found in a room at the UGA Hotel on March 30 leading to a warrant for a visitor on a reckless conduct charge, a UGA golf cart valued at $5,000 was stolen from the College of Veterinary Medicine on April 25, and arrest warrants were signed on April 23 for a suspect linked to a December 16 burglary at a temporary construction site office—police say the suspect has not been reached—while investigations remain open.
