- ➤ Last month, Athens celebrated three local black bear birthdays at Bear Hollow Zoo, where community members gathered to watch DJ (22) and Yonah and Athena (15) enjoy cake and serenades on their special day. WUGA
- ➤ Officials gathered Friday to celebrate the grand opening of The View at NoDA, a public housing complex in downtown Athens built on the site of former Bethel Midtown (where older housing had many issues). The 120-apartment complex offers varying rental rates (for a range of incomes) and was funded with SPLOST funds and partnerships from Columbia Residential, Jonathan Rose Companies, and the Athens Housing Authority. - ➤ On April 21, a woman in north Athens reported that her grandchildren found an old, rusted Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol in a wooded area behind a building in the 200 block of Floyd Drive off Old Jefferson Road, and police said the firearm was not reported stolen and has been taken into evidence. - ➤ Last week in Athens, UGA’s Ars Gratia Artis performed 'Fever/Dream' at the Warnell School on April 28 and Dawgstock Music Festival featured acts such as Fossils for Brunch and Sunday Driver on April 27 while the UGA baseball team defeated Kennesaw State 9-2 at Foley Field on April 29. Sandy Creek Nature Center hosted Snake Day on May 3 which taught locals about reptiles — ATHICA Studiofest showcased local art that same day. The Red & Black

- ➤ Brock Bowers is back in Athens—not for another touchdown but to earn his finance degree at UGA, according to Coach Kirby Smart. The former national champion and first-round pick chose academics to prepare for life after football. Classic City News

- ➤ Precinct 7A polling location will move from Timothy Baptist Church to the Athens-Clarke County Library at 2025 Baxter St. for summer elections following an ACC Board of Elections vote on April 24th. Voters will use the new site for the June 17 special primary & any July runoffs, and a public comment session will be held on May 13 at 4:30 p.m. at the ACC Facilities and Landscape Building at 2555 Lexington Road. - ➤ The FDA announced a recall of tomatoes from H&C Farms & Ray & Mascari due to possible salmonella contamination. The recalled produce was distributed in Georgia and other states and people are told not to eat any that match the recalled packaging. Athens Banner-Herald

- ➤ The NCAA released bracket projections for the 2025 baseball tournament showing Texas as the projected No. 1 overall seed and that the SEC may send a record 14 teams, including Georgia hosting the Athens Regional. - ➤ After a weekend sweep at Missouri and a win against Kennesaw State, Georgia baseball moved up to No. 1 in Baseball America and Perfect Game polls and reached No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports coaches poll — marking the first time since mid-April 2009 they topped a major poll.
