CRIME NEWS

  • On April 25, a car struck an older couple crossing near Live Wire at Dougherty and Hull and police allowed the driver to leave without a sobriety check—witnesses said an officer searched the car, poured out a bottle of alcohol, and both victims were taken by ambulance with injuries that did not appear severe.  Classic City News
  • On April 25th, Athens police allowed a driver to leave after a car traveling 20 to 30 mph struck an older couple in a marked crosswalk near the Live Wire event at Dougherty and Hull Streets—later, officers arrested the driver on charges of homicide by vehicle and failure to yield.  Classic City News

  • Five-star quarterback Jared Curtis will announce his college decision today at 4:30 p.m. CT at Nashville Christian — he will choose between Georgia football and Oregon.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Today, five star quarterback Jared Curtis from Nashville Christian School will announce his college commitment at 5:30 p.m. as he chooses between Georgia and Oregon — both programs made the playoffs last season. He previously committed to Georgia but later reversed his decision, with his growth on and off the field impressing coaches at both schools.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Tomorrow, the 2025 SEC Softball Tournament begins at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens (Oklahoma is the No. 1 seed, Texas A&M is No. 2, Texas is No. 3, and Tennessee is No. 4) as teams will compete from May 6 to May 10.
