  • This week in Athens saw softball face UT at Jack Turner Softball Stadium and Drí perform at The Red & Black; Caamp rocked Akins Ford Arena while the African American Choral Ensemble performed at Hodgson Concert Hall. The Hey, You Hoedown took place at Athentic Brewing on April 25.  The Red & Black
  • Several Athens restaurants will support Clarke County School District’s Gifted Savings program by donating a portion of April 30 sales to help provide graduating seniors with $1,000 investment portfolios and financial education. Support is also available online via the Athens Area Community Foundation.  WUGA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Slater’s Steakhouse is set to hold its final service on May 17 after three and a half years at its Five Points location — owners thanked the Athens community and announced the sale to a new operator whose plans will be shared soon — as they continue with other local ventures.  Athens Banner-Herald

  • Dr. Erika Rasure offered practical money tips for financial literacy month on April 27. The doctor explained how simple changes in spending can help improve financial health.  FOX 5 Atlanta

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Revenue will send $1.2 billion in tax rebate payments to eligible residents in early May. Georgia residents should check official updates for payment details.  FOX 5 Atlanta

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wildfire smoke has raised indoor air quality concerns, and top-rated air purifier deals are available now to help filter allergens and pollutants. Retailers offer discounts on models from PuroAir (12% off), LG, Dyson, and others to support residents in improving home air.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Three Athens area Asian restaurants got B scores from Department of Health inspections for violations such as employees wearing wrist watches and improper food storage. Inspections from April 15 — 27 found that New Red Bowl Asian Bistro, Dumpling Master and Hibachi Grill Supreme Buffet scored between 82 and 84.  Athens Banner-Herald
