- ➤ Dan Long runs Tallassee Highlands Apiary where he takes care of 50 beehives and wears a 'moon suit' to safely harvest honey while using 3D printing to create new queen bee cages—his EZPZ line now sells in 12 countries and supplies local stores such as Community. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At its May 8 meeting, the Clarke County Board of Education will consider appointing Jennifer Scott as interim superintendent—she will replace retiring Robbie Hooker. Scott, who has worked as deputy superintendent of Academics and Student Support, will serve from July 1 through June 30, 2026 while the board begins a search for a permanent superintendent. - ➤ Jared Wilson from Georgia was picked in the third round (No. 95 overall) of the NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He started 12 games last season, did not allow a sack in 810 snaps, and his speed is expected to boost his new team's interior line. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ Georgia football offensive guard Dylan Fairchild was picked by the Bengals in the third round of the NFL draft—he was the 81st overall pick after two seasons at Georgia that brought his team to the SEC Championship Game. - ➤ Detroit Lions drafted Georgia offensive guard Tate Ratledge in the second round of the NFL Draft as the No. 57 overall pick.
