  • At a presentation yesterday, The Classic Center shared plans for Athens' first dedicated African American history center set to open later this year between The Foundry & Akins Ford Arena. Leaders described exhibits, school programs & forums honoring Linnentown's history.  Flagpole
  • The fourth annual Hey You! Hoe Down Musical Festival takes place today from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Athentic Brewing Company and features live bands, an art auction and a beer release to raise funds for local educator grants honoring Carrie Fischer Siegmund; grant applications are now being accepted for two $1,000 awards.  WUGA
  • Sanford Stadium in Athens hosts Live Between the Hedges today with performances by Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Zach Top, and Lauren Alaina, opening gates at 4:00 p.m. Organizers say parking starts at 2:00 p.m. and a complimentary shuttle departs at 3:30 p.m. (Presented by Pruitt Health.)  Athens Banner-Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Athens-Clarke County Fire Department warned residents about declining air quality from wildfire smoke drifting in from the south — urging those with respiratory issues and vulnerable groups to take precautions such as using N95 masks and keeping indoor air clean.  WUGA
  • Costco recalled over 200,000 32 Degrees Heated Socks—sold in local and online stores between August 2025 and March 2026—after 14 consumers reported heat-related burns. Athens customers should immediately stop using the product and return it for a full refund.  FOX 5 Atlanta

  • Georgia football radio broadcasts will have new voices this season as Jeff Dantzler takes over play-by-play and former Bulldog Jon Stinchcomb joins as analyst while Scott Howard shifts to basketball calls.   • Flavor Flav has invited UGA women’s tennis to lead his SHE Weekend Parade in Las Vegas in July after a controversial White House photo sparked online debate.
