- ➤ Today, Athens hosts a range of cultural events including a 'Chungle Musical' screening at Ciné at 11 a.m., a Skate Park 20th Birthday Bash at Southeast Clarke Park at noon, and an Earth Fare 50th Anniversary celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—a hip hop concert called 'Out on a Limb' was held yesterday at The LAB at 8 p.m. and a vegan seafood pop-up will take place on Sunday at Athentic Brewing Co. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Athens Banner-Herald

- ➤ The Clarke County School District is hosting its annual Young Scientist Fair today at Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary for K-5 students—Science Olympiad competitions start at 8:30 a.m., public viewing begins at 10:30 a.m., and the award ceremony follows at 11:30 a.m.—Students must drop off all Science Fair, Art Exhibition, and Clarke Invents projects between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on April 18. - ➤ Dainess Maganda came to the U.S. from Tanzania but had a serious car crash six months later that left her unable to speak—ending her plans to become a doctor. She later chose to teach minority languages at the University of Georgia to help students learn English. The Red & Black

- ➤ With the school year ending, Athens residents may recycle paper, metal cans, plastic bottles, glass jars and plastic bags at different drop-off sites on College Ave, behind the fire department in Winterville, on Jail Road near the Tag Office, at ACC Landfill on Lexington Road, at ACC Recycling Facility on Hancock Industrial Way and at several 24-hour ACC locations. The University of Georgia will host a Dawgs Ditch the Dumpster donation event from April 30 until May 8 for items like futons, clothing and appliances while not accepting mattresses, broken furniture or opened food. - ➤ At Tuesday night's meeting, the Athens-Clarke County mayor and commission discussed a zoning change that could allow nearly 1,000 new housing units on the West side, though several commissioners opposed the plan for not meeting community standards. They also reviewed school resource officer funding and the fate of the historic Saye Building permit, and extended acting county manager Bradley Griffin's contract until early June—the next vote is set for May 6. - ➤ On April 9, UGA hosted the first Normaltown Community Health Fair at its Health Sciences Campus to connect Athenians with essential health and wellness resources.
