  • Entrepreneur Solomon Cohen’s Papa Mountain vegan bread rolls won top honors at UGA’s Flavor of Georgia competition and earned a NEXTY Award in March, following a 10+ year journey from local farmers markets to an Atlanta commercial kitchen. CRIME NEWS

  • Athens police cited Theta Chi on South Milledge Avenue for loud music from a band on Mar. 28 after neighbors complained, noting the noise reached 377 feet and violated the daytime ordinance.  Classic City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Clarke Central High School will host its Summer Book Club for 500 student-athletes, coaches, and librarians to study integration history through the book The Crimson and Gold. The program will conclude at homecoming weekend with a school symposium and public panel (dates to be announced).  Athens Banner-Herald

  • Nové Mesto, a Czech-inspired restaurant and bar in Athens, opened on April 1 at Suite 130 on Barber St. It offers dishes like schnitzel, pierogies, and sausage plates along with a range of beers, wines & cocktails and provides non-alcoholic options during its afternoon to late-night hours.  Athens Banner-Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Indiana Sentinels beat the Athens Rock Lobsters (4-3) in a hockey game at Akins Ford Arena on Saturday, April 4. The match featured close plays and a spirited effort from both teams.  The Red & Black
  • Georgia women's basketball has hired Ayla Guzzardo as its new head coach, replacing Katie Abrahamson-Henderson who left on April 3. Guzzardo, with experience at McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana, now faces a rebuilding season as key scorers enter the transfer portal.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Georgia football is working to create more explosive plays during spring ball as Coach Kirby Smart said Gunner Stockton and the offense will focus on better deep throws & improved running plays to boost the season.
