- ➤ Athens movie goers can join the inaugural African American Film Festival at the historic Morton Theatre in downtown Athens. The event will showcase Black storytelling through film, music, and conversation on Friday and Saturday (tickets available online). WUGA

- ➤ Athens teacher Timothy Pritchett, a third-grade educator at Barnett Shoals Elementary, was named as one of 10 finalists for Georgia Teacher of the Year on April 3; he launched free tutoring programs to support student achievement and now awaits the final selection. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ Dr. Kristina Lerch-Batson (assistant principal at Clarke Middle since 2020) is set to join Barrow Elementary as its new Assistant Principal for the 2026-27 school year, following approval on April 2 by the Clarke County Board of Education. - ➤ At Thursday night's work session, the Clarke County School District Board of Education did not approve the updated student code of conduct amid concerns that the word 'discretion' may allow discrimination, and it must refine the policy before approving it by spring. WUGA

- ➤ An Athens resident claimed a $1 million prize from Georgia Lottery's 50X The Money scratcher after buying the ticket at Citgo Food Mart on Monroe Highway in Winder on April 2.
