  • Athens Meals on Wheels finished its March on Wheels campaign on March 31, raising awareness about services for more than 160 seniors + Senior Staples recipients, and the organization will launch an April initiative to reduce its wait list.  WUGA

  • Between Mar. 25 and 27, Athens GA Live Music recorded performances by local and touring bands at venues (40 Watt Club, Nowhere Bar, Live Wire, Roadhouse, and Paloma Park). The archive captured sets by artists including Annie Leeth, Drí and the Violence, and Penelope Road.  Flagpole

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Athens native Angela Gay, a school social worker at Howard B. Stroud Elementary and Cedar Shoals High School, was honored as School Social Worker of the Year by the School Social Workers Association of Georgia on March 31. Her award highlights her work with local students and families since 2001.  WUGA
  • Cedar Shoals has renamed its baseball field in honor of late James Holston, the first head coach and a hall-of-famer, and will hold a dedication ceremony today at 5 p.m.—the renaming follows strong support from former players and the school board’s vote. HEALTH NEWS

  • Students at The Mark Athens received rabies shots after bats were found in several units, with incidents beginning in January and more reported last week. Management removed the bats (and addressed entry points) while offering hotel reimbursement and relocation options for affected residents.  WUGA
