- ➤ The inaugural Athens African American Film Festival—celebrating Black storytelling—will begin April 3 at the historic Morton Theatre with a 6 p.m. reception and hip-hop video showcase, continuing April 4 with a screening of 'Daughters of the Dust' and a panel discussion. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ The 10th annual Vic Chesnutt Songwriter of the Year Awards will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. at the Morton Theatre, where five local finalists were selected from 64 nominations to vie for cash prizes and promotional support. Athens Banner-Herald

- ➤ UGA professor C. Robin Buell, a plant genomics expert from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, was named the 2026 SEC Professor of the Year and will receive a $25,000 honorarium. She is the fourth UGA faculty member to earn this award. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ Cedar Shoals High School will hold a dedication ceremony honoring the late James Holston—the first baseball coach and longtime teacher—on Wednesday, April 1st at 5 p.m. before the Jaguars’ home game. WUGA

- ➤ Mayor candidate Dexter Fisher held a town hall meeting at Athens-Ben Epps Airport on Mar. 19 to propose restoring commercial flights to Athens amid discussions with Delta+Southwest+American+United.
