CRIME NEWS

  • A 3-month-old boy died Sunday morning on Tallassee Road after he was found unresponsive in bed while his mother worked and his cousin cared for him—an adult male reported finding him on his side, called 911 at 8:28 a.m., and doctors pronounced him dead as detectives began investigating with no foul play suspected.  Classic City News

  • Due to the ongoing bird flu outbreak, grocery stores in Athens have raised egg prices and limited sales—affecting students like Savannah Bowden and local restaurants that depend on eggs for breakfast. Local farms are seeing more demand and experts warn that egg costs may rise further before the virus slows down in the summer—leaving consumers with fewer options.  The Red & Black

  • Nearly 400 Athens citizens submitted more than 160 questions to Congressman Mike Collins’s Monroe office after he declined to attend a busy town hall meeting — community leaders Barbara Burt and Harold Thompson led the delivery and said they will continue urging him to meet with voters.  Classic City News

  • Georgia baseball improved in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches poll on Monday by rising two spots to No. 3 after sweeping Florida in Gainesville—marking its highest ranking since March 16 when it was No. 2. The Bulldogs, with a 24–2 record and a 5–1 SEC mark, will play West Georgia today before hosting Auburn in a three-game series starting Friday.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • The Georgia women's tennis team defeated Oklahoma University 4-0 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens on March 23rd—showing strong play in a match held at home.  The Red & Black
