- ➤ Kroger officials say a new Kroger Marketplace will open in May at 2301 College Station Road as the current store closes and 300 employees transition to the 116,274-square-foot building; the development will create 100 to 200 new jobs plus later add a fuel center and retail space. - ➤ The U.S. Justice Department announced on March 19 in Athens that 29-year-old Venezuelan Diego Jose Ibarra, who pleaded guilty during the Laken Riley murder investigation after using a fraudulent Green Card, was sentenced to 48 months in prison — he will be deported along with his brother and a former roommate. - ➤ Tuesday, March 18, the Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission met to discuss the Gaines School Road project and a resolution on Black minority inequities.
