  • Organizers said 250 cyclists will ride routes from 14 to 82 miles—Tickets to Ride will be held Saturday, March 22 with an Athens start at Dudley Park and additional starting points in Winterville and Union Point. Past president Mark Ralston said the event will raise awareness of the trail’s remaining 26 unfinished miles and let more people know it is free and open to everyone.  WUGA
  • Kendall Gates—born March 15 when Athens locked down for COVID-19—is now 5 and getting speech therapy and karate lessons to help him socialize. His mom said she first noticed his speech delay at age 2 and that the therapy has helped him start telling stories.  The Red & Black

  • Kentucky poet Joy Priest, whose debut collection Horsepower won the Donald Hall Prize for Poetry, will visit Athens on Friday at 7 p.m. at 675 Pulaski Street for a reading and book signing hosted by the UGA Creative Writing Program (in partnership with the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts).  WUGA

  • Today, members and supporters of United Campus Workers of Georgia will gather at the UGA Arch from 12 to 1 p.m. to address the funding crisis in higher education as speakers including staff, graduate workers, faculty and community members protest plans by Athens’ representative to terminate the US Department of Education. The protest follows years of chronic underfunding that critics say harms academia.  Classic City News
