- ➤ Costco introduced four new Kirkland Signature products on Mar. 16 at its Georgia stores to help offset tariff effects, adding crispy wings with buffalo sauce, a double chocolate mint sundae, Atlantic blackened salmon and a full zip women's garment. Athens Banner-Herald

- ➤ On Monday, March 16, Tattoo Logic performed at the Red & Black office in Athens during its monthly On the Beat series. The band gave a live set that engaged local audiences. The Red & Black
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Katie Hanks has been appointed as the new principal of Whit Davis Elementary by the Clarke County School District after serving as interim principal since July 2025, and she will lead the school in the upcoming academic year (she earned her doctorate from UGA). The Red & Black
- ➤ Keaton Coletti, a UGA doctoral candidate and North Oconee graduate, is the first UGA student to earn a Truman Postdoctoral Fellowship from Sandia National Laboratories. He begins his three-year research program in October and will work remotely from Athens. Athens Banner-Herald
- ➤ Athens Prison Tutorial, a UGA program connecting student tutors and inmates working toward GEDs and certificates, has expanded to five facilities — including the local jail and women’s facility — and resumed full operations in 2026 after a staffing pause last fall, helping inmates earn GEDs. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Some Athens schools canceled classes on Monday due to severe weather predictions that raised concerns about tornado threats, though no touchdowns were reported. National Weather Service experts say the heart of tornado season comes in March, April & May and advise residents to monitor local alerts. Athens Banner-Herald

- ➤ The IRS released its Dirty Dozen list to warn local taxpayers about rising scams that threaten their financial data. A wind advisory was in effect from 10:24 a.m. Monday until 2:00 a.m. Tuesday in several counties including Clarke (check local conditions). FOX 5 Atlanta

- ➤ Georgia women’s basketball will face a First Four winner from Virginia or Arizona State at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City Saturday, Mar. 21 at 1:30 p.m. The contest — part of the NCAA Tournament’s Sacramento Regional 4 — will be broadcast on ESPN2. Athens Banner-Herald
