- ➤ Officials said on Mar. 14 that the new eastside Athens Kroger Marketplace at 2301 College Station Road is set to open in May instead of the originally planned summer 2025 timeline. The 116,274-square-foot store will absorb 300 existing jobs and add up to 200 new ones as its predecessor is closed for demolition to make way for a fuel center — further details on the grand opening will be announced three weeks in advance.
