- ➤ An Athens woman, Ciarae Bradford, 33, is indicted on felony aggravated cruelty to animals charges for starving her dog to death—animal control found its malnourished remains in a wire cage behind her Mabry Drive home in April 2024 and she is scheduled for arraignment on April 15. - ➤ Federal pauses in electric vehicle funding have halted Athens Clarke-County's Project FAST, which planned to install 20 fast chargers and 38 level-2 chargers at 14 sites using $4.9 million in federal funds and a $1.2 million local match (federal review pending). Mayor Kelly Girtz and ACCGov Sustainability Office director Mike Wharton said the delay could push back clean energy benefits by up to 14 months. The Red & Black

- ➤ Since 2018, the Athens Free Clinic has given over $1 million in free health care to uninsured and underinsured residents through more than 4,400 patient visits by medical students and doctors. The clinic works with local sites to offer primary care, chronic disease care, and coronavirus vaccines — it will expand services this spring when the Clarke Middle Health Center opens.
