  • Shake Shack will open its first Athens location and Georgia's first drive-thru on Wednesday, Mar. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at 161 Alps Rd, offering in-dining and drive-thru service & becoming the chain's 10th restaurant in Georgia.  Athens Banner-Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sandy Creek Nature Center hosts a Women in Science program today from 2 to 4 p.m. at 205 Old Commerce Road. The event features a stamp display by local groups & showcases nearly 40 stamps honoring female scientists.  Athens Banner-Herald

  • Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz announced Friday an interactive website that shares archival data, maps and photos documenting the R-51 urban renewal project and its impact on downtown Athens, developed with Historic Athens + UGA to offer local residents a closer look at the city’s past.  The Red & Black

  • Georgia Walmart stores recalled certain Great Value cottage cheese containers after a Feb. 27 report that they may not be fully pasteurized — items with expiration dates from April 1 to April 3 should be returned since no illnesses were reported.  Athens Banner-Herald

  • Georgia GymDogs All-American Lily Smith missed Friday’s Kentucky meet after injuring her left foot (she now wears a boot and uses crutches) as the team edged the win; coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi said her rest was a safety measure and her condition will be updated when back in Athens.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • The Georgia Bulldogs defeated Oakland University 16-6 at Foley Field in Athens on Friday, Feb. 27. The win showcased strong play and adds momentum to the Bulldogs' season.  The Red & Black
  • Georgia softball will play two games today at 1 p.m. against South Alabama and at 3:30 p.m. against UNC-Wilmington as part of its 17th Bulldog Classic in Athens running from Friday through Sunday. Fans can stream the games on the SEC Network & ESPN app.  Athens Banner-Herald
  • Georgia gymnastics faced No. 23 Kentucky in a meet at Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington on Friday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. The match—broadcast on SEC Network via ESPN—provided key season testing for both teams.  Athens Banner-Herald
